Music has always played an important part in worship. It combines the power of words with the emotion of the melody. It can bring us to the greatest heights or cause us to probe our innermost feelings. For most of us the music of our youth has a special place in our hearts. Our memories of youth are linked to the music of that period. So it is with the music associated with our faith. When we sing "Amazing Grace" we not only say the words but remember the experiences associated with the song. It might be going to church with our parents when we were young, singing around a campfire at church camp, or just a time when we felt especially close to God. If hymns were part of the worship when you came to know Jesus they are a significant
part of your faith experience. Over time music styles change. We have had classical, big band, rock and roll, hard rock, country and the list goes on. Styles also change in Christian music. Today's contemporary Christian music uses modern harmony to convey the timeless truths of the gospel. Since the church is a family made up of people from several generations at the Fowlers Mill Christian Church we use both hymns and contemporary Christian music. Each style compliments the other and contributes to a meaningful worship experience.
